Studio Technician Job Posting
The Ottawa Glassblowing Cooperative (OGC) is seeking a highly motivated, skilled and organized Studio Technician (ST) to join our dynamic team. The primary role of the ST is to build, organize, maintain, and supervise the studio and facility for rental, classes, events, and special projects at the Ottawa Glassblowing Co-op (OGC).
The ST manages the technical aspects of the Hot and Cold shops to maintain a clean, safe, and productive studio environment while promoting the cooperative workplace culture. The ST responds to emergency situations when on-site (or when scheduled within the On-Call rotation) as situations arise in order to maintain the smooth operation of classes, programs, and the facility.
It is a highly collaborative position that works with a varied group of motivated individuals in the OGC studio. The Studio Technician must be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, be highly detailed and organized. They work to further the Vision, Mission, Principles & Strategic Goals of the OGC and adhere to the OGC Guiding Principles at all times. The ST is also an ex-officio member of the Board.
The Ottawa Glassblowing Cooperative operates under a non-profit model with all funds being used to support the facility and to maintain the glass and equipment at high quality. Our mandate is to build a glassblowing co-operative that operates inclusively to support the artistic creativity, learning and growth of its members and to engage the public and community in the art of glass. Title: Glass Studio Technician
Reports to: Board of Directors
Status: Part-time (up to 15 hrs per week, possibility of more hours with Board approval on a case-by-case basis). This is a contract position to begin immediately for a one year term with possibility of renewal. The successful candidate will undergo a probationary period for the first six months of employment. During this time, performance and compatibility with the company's values and objectives will be assessed.
Hourly Rate: $25 - $30 /hour
Qualifications:
- Experience in electromechanical, machine repair/maintenance, metal fabrication and/or electrical and plumbing systems.
- Equivalent experience (must fully describe experience).
- Comfortable using hand and power tools.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including having strong organizational, detail oriented and exceptional interpersonal skills.
- Must hold a valid ON driver's license and a clean driving record.

Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
Special consideration will be given to candidates with:
- Broad knowledge of glass blowing and cold working processes and equipment.
- Basic knowledge of art studio equipment & operations, furnace/kiln building experience, glass working.
- Experience in glass studio operations.
- Bachelor of Fine Arts in Glass
- Diploma/background in Craft and Design with a specialty in Glassblowing.
- Equivalent experience (must fully describe experience).
